The Black Book of Colors by Menena Cottin

I stumbled across this while looking for a book for my cousin’s new baby. I was so intrigued by the whole idea. On each left page there was words written in braille and then again in white text. It was the description of colors, according to how a blind child would experience. On the right there were raised etchings of what each page was describing. It’s so beautiful.

One page in particular that really caught my attention was the one describing the color red. It talked about how red is how it feels to bite into a ripe strawberry, or the stinging on your knee after you fall down.  Blue was the feeling of sunshine on your face.

It’s just so astounding that someone managed this, as the idea of how to describe a color to someone who has no reference has always fascinated and baffled me.

ummmm why is this filthy porn on my dash?

The moment I decided for sure that we were moving into this co-op, was when they showed me the TV room/library which is bigger than my old living room and floor to ceiling books all the way around.  Then there are two otherbook spaces stashed around the place.

THIS! I WANT MY WHOLE GODDAMNED HOUSE LIKE THIS! AND EVERY ROOM WILL BE THEMED WITH A DIFFERENT KIND OF SEATING FOR WHICHEVER WAY I FEEL LIKE READING AT THE MOMENT.

It’s like someone literally ripped my dreams for a house out and made them real.

when im married im going to build a house like this with lots of bookcases and secret passageways so that when my kids are like 4 or 5 and exploring the house on a rainy day they’ll stumble upon a door and open it up and be like BAM LIBRARY and spend all day in it and ill pretend i have no idea where they’ve been all day but really ill know exactly what theyve been doing and smile

This is what reading truly is. Money shouldn’t be a thing when books are involved just a sharing of knowledge.

Book blogging always makes me feel better.

T-T why isn’t there a store like that near me…

Because you would arrive in a big truck and take all the books. Then you can hardly call it a store anymore, can you? :P

A new vending machine has been released which can print any book within minutes.

The Espresso Book Machine has access to 500,000 different books - the same as 23.6 miles of shelf space - and can even churn out a fresh copy of Crime and Punishment in just nine minutes.

Pages are printed at a rate of over 100 per minute and are then pressed, glued and cut to produce a pristine book.

Users simply pick the book they would like on a screen and wait for it to be printed … it certainly is a novel way of getting a new book.

WHAT?

GET ME MY CHARIOT. WE’RE GOING TO HUNT THIS THING DOWN.

Utilizing obsolete encyclopedias and other heavy texts, Guy makes them relevant again by repurposing them as traversible landscapes for tiny people. Or fleas maybe.
