The Swap-O-Matic is a vending machine that allows users to donate and receive used items at no cost. Use involves a “credit” system in which participants earn credits by contributing things; credits can be redeemed to obtain items.
Its makers say:
Participation with the system will allow users to rethink spending patterns, view consumption with a different perspective, and explore issues of material possessions and American consumption through a public installation.
The Swap-O-Matic is currently located at the Launch Pad in Brooklyn.
